The Taitung County Government launched the third annual Taitung Light Festival on October 26 in the Zhiben Hot Spring Area, running through December 8th for a 45-day long exhibition. The event space has expanded to include areas around Yongnan Bridge, featuring 10 light art installations, including large-scale light projections, musical performances, workshops, markets, and an open-air starlit cinema. Magistrate April Yao hopes this festival will draw visitors to Taitung, where they can immerse themselves in Zhiben’s natural surroundings and experience an enchanting blend of light and art.
The Taitung County Cultural Affairs Department announced that the 2024 Taitung Light Festival, themed “Natural Light,” will showcase 10 large-scale works by local and international artists, bringing a vibrant energy to Zhiben Hot Spring Village. Inspired by Taitung’s natural elements, including the sun, moon, and stars, the artists have used innovative technology and artistic techniques to create light sculptures and interactive light installations that blend nature and cultural landscapes. Among the highlights is the transformation of the iconic Yongnan Bridge. Under the creative vision of 9 Grid Design, it will be reimagined as a massive light sculpture titled “Radiance”, where brilliant light effects reflect Taitung’s mountains and ocean, making Yongnan Bridge a radiant landmark in the nighttime landscape of Zhiben.
The 2024 Zhiben Light Festival introduces Brazilian street artist VJ Suave, renowned for his creative street art, who collaborates with students in Taitung for the first time. Together, they have created two installations, “Space Odyssey” and “Starry Zoo,” encouraging young minds to bring imagination into reality. Japanese artist Yasuhiro Chida also makes his Taitung debut with “ Analemma,” a piece that envelops visitors in the enchanting experience of a meteor shower. Additionally, Taiwanese artist groups, including Yuyu Art Studio, JR Architects x Yeh Guang Studio x Atelier Let’s, Iyo Kacaw, Wu Jiaxun x Vangin Design, 404 N.F., and Initial Complex, will present light installations, each showcasing a unique perspective and creative approach, adding diverse layers of expression to the festival’s artistic landscape.
The Taitung County Government is adding to the excitement of the 2024 Zhiben Light Festival by distributing limited-edition small lanterns for attendees to enjoy. Throughout the 45-day festival, visitors can also participate in outdoor starlit cinema screenings and cultural workshops, allowing for hands-on creative experiences. Located around Zhiben Hot Spring’s Yongnan Bridge area, including the Toyugi Hot Spring Resort & Spa and Zhongyi Tang Temple, the festival welcomes all lovers of art and nature to immerse themselves in this luminous celebration.
