Downtown Taitung
The downtown area starts from Zhongzheng Road and south to the seashore. The downtown is considered to be the origin of Taitung. Visitors who like to experience different culture can stroll down the streets to enjoy the timeless charm and the great food tradition. For those who love being out in nature, there is the Taitung Forest Park.
TTstyle , located in the center of Taitung city, has always been known as the “Wave House” and is a popular destination landmark in Taitung. The building is also home to the Taitung Indigenous Cultural and Creative Industries Park. A trip to Taitung would not be considered complete if you don’t stop by and take a look.
The architecture of TTstyle combines the top qualities of Taitung’s landscape and cultural scenes. The inspiration for the wavy exterior comes from Taitung’s exquisite mountains and waters that look like rolling waves from afar and mighty peaks from up close. The totems on the pillars document the traditional spirit and artistic techniques of the Taitung tribes. The hall is built using 50 shipping containers and is currently home to 18 stores.
A total of seven different indigenous groups reside in Taitung County with rich and diverse aboriginal cultures. The TTstyle has been open since 2017 and has been a vital platform for shaping and cultivating south island culture and the aboriginal creative industry. Visitors can appreciate and purchase creative tribal merchandise that is exclusive to the wavy tower of repurposed shipping containers, sign up for a traditional craftsmanship course, and or enjoy a meal at the specialty restaurant. Art exhibitions and concerts are held at the hall throughout the year so that you can feel the power of indigenous creativity and experience the local slower-paced lifestyle.
