South Link Line
After departing from Taitung, you can keep heading south along Provincial Highway No.9 and join the South Link Highway, going through Taimali Township, Jinfeng Township, Dawu Township, and Daren Township. On the road trip, travelers can enjoy the charming view of Coastal Ridge on one side and broad Pacific Ocean on the other. The whole trip presents many cultural and natural attractions to tourists from all over the world.
The phrase for Taimali in the Paiwan language is Tjavualji, meaning the place where the sun rises, thus the place also has the name home of the rising sun. The most beautiful break of dawn falls upon Taimali each day. If you wish to view the vibrant sunrise, you must not miss out on visiting Taimali Dawn Park. The site is right beside the highway and is easily accessible by car.
True to its name, Taimali Dawn Park, also known as Millennium Dawn Memorial Park, was built to celebrate entering the 21st century. Over 25 countries joined the live-stream celebrative event on January 1st, 2000, and the breathtaking view of the sunrise over the horizon was selected to become the spotlight at this event. Since then, this location has been on the short list of places to celebrate ringing in the new year. New Year’s music festivals are also held here each year, inviting singers and bands to help create a festive and fun ambiance to welcome the coming year.
You can enjoy a spectacular mountain and ocean view on normal days, too. The Taimali Dawn Park is well-equipped with facilities, offering resting pagodas, walking paths, parking lots, and more. Stroll down to the Dawn Memorial Wall and Dawn Monument for a photo. Sit along the beach and enjoy the long and rolling coastline while feeling the fine sand and cool ocean waves between your toes.
