The lives of the Aboriginal people are inseparable from nature. Their rich knowledge and experience with wild vegetables have been passed down through the generations. Wild Veggie Queen was founded to protect and pass on this valuable intellectual asset.
Wild Veggie Queen, founded in November of 2019, was co-founded by seven Aboriginal women who have a collected age of over five centuries. They visited nearly a hundred tribes in Taitung in just two to three years and got to know all types of wild vegetables unique to each tribe.
By promoting a variety of products and with the power of social media, Wild Veggie Queen is sharing all the benefits of wild greens with the world. Besides developing vibrantly colorful soaps in fun shapes, Wild Veggie Queen also offered the popular “wild greens box” that was a massive hit during the pandemic. The team even developed tribal vacation itineraries focusing on wild vegetables, combining music, wild green cuisine, and DIY wild greens soap-making courses to create a fun and educational trip.
In the process of creating Wild Veggie Queen, they also collaborated with aboriginal women from various tribes to collect wild vegetables as an additional source of income. This has promoted the tribal economy and has even earned high recognition from the Council of Indigenous Peoples’ Million Elite Creation Project. Wild Veggie Queen has incorporated local tourism into people’s daily lives while also maximizing the economic benefits of wild vegetables.
