Sunrise Driftwood Workshop

The Sunrise Driftwood Workshop is a place where dreams become a reality, the workshop is located near the Duoliang Station in Taitung. The workshop was founded after Typhoon Morakot blew through Taiwan in 2009, leaving piles of driftwood behind. The workshop joined forces with many people and organizations to further the driftwood art industry.

The Sunrise Driftwood Workshop is remodeled from the abandoned building that once was Duoliang Elementary School. The original look of the school was retained, keeping the classrooms and renovating them into exhibition spaces that showcase the origins of the Sunrise Driftwood Workshop. Many bilingual exhibitions are available for foreign visitors, including Duoliang tribal culture and an introduction to traditional Paiwan crafts. Enter the workshop and you’ll find shelves covered in wooden handicrafts, larger furniture pieces, and practical wooden bowls and utensils. The space is filled with a gentle yet refreshing wood scent, luring you to slow your pace and take your time exploring the space. You’ll also find driftwood in just about every corner of the workshop, such as the observation deck made out of driftwood where guests can take in the stunning Pacific Ocean view.

Driftwood Workshop has also created many local job opportunities and funneled creativity, while also bringing new hope and motivation to passing on tribal culture. Driftwood art is decorative and can have many practical usages.
