Many have run marathons throughout city landscapes but Taiwan offers up a challenging route circumnavigating one of its offshore islands.
What today is referred to as Green Island, a large volcanic rock off the east coast of Taiwan, previously dawned the far more eerie name of Burning Island. Green Island’s prior name comes from the view of its landscape during autumn and winter when the northeast wind is quite harsh, causing the plants on the island to wither and dry into a brownish color, similar to it being burnt. When fall is upon us come to Green Island to participate in the Burning Island International Marathon occurring on September 25th 2020. The race route circumnavigates the island allowing runners and spectators to get an in-depth understanding of the beautiful terrain and natural ecology of this tropical island. Running a marathon on Green Island will leave you with an experience not to be soon forgotten!
