Taitung County’s first education center dedicated to environmental protection — the Taitung Sustainability Ark — is now open to the public through October 31. Visitors are welcome Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibition focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering digital and interactive experiences that promote environmental sustainability, green lifestyles, and low-carbon living. The venue has become a landmark destination for environmental education in Taitung.
In addition to the exhibition, environmental education courses and hands-on eco-friendly DIY activities are available Tuesday through Friday for pre-registered groups. Groups of 20 or more are eligible to apply, while for school and social welfare groups a minimum of 10 participants is sufficient. The Taitung County Government emphasized that promoting the UN SDGs continues to be a priority. In its commitment to environmental education and sustainable development, the county has identified three core pillars for the Sustainability Ark — Environment, Ecology, and Sustainability. The Ark provides an engaging and inclusive learning space suitable for all ages, encouraging deeper understanding of local environmental challenges and conservation efforts.
The Environmental Protection Bureau noted that the Ark features self-guided digital tours available in Mandarin, English, and Japanese. Creative thinking and multimedia interaction are integrated into the exhibits to deepen public understanding of environmental and sustainability concepts. During the summer vacation, themed educational activities will also be offered on weekends. The Bureau encourages residents to continuously explore environmental topics at the Ark, absorb new knowledge, and put green living and carbon reduction into practice — from their homes to everyday life. By doing so, Taitung can take steady steps toward a net-zero and sustainable future.
