Director of Education Tsai Mei-Yao explained that the team from Changbin Junior High School addressed the need for “home-based acute care” by developing the gold-winning project “Zero-Contact Health Guardian Angel,” which provides hospital-level home care for patients with limited mobility. The core design incorporates millimeter-wave radar technology, allowing round-the-clock monitoring of heart rate and breathing without requiring wearable devices. When abnormalities are detected or voice distress calls are received, the system immediately notifies caregivers via voice prompts, LED display panels, and LINE messages. It also integrates remote video communication and voice-controlled door unlocking functions, enhancing both safety and efficiency in home care.

Located at the northernmost point of Taitung County, Zhangyuan Elementary School has only 20 students. Yet two sixth-grade students, Liao Yu-Huang and Dong Wei-Jie, developed the “Smart Beetle Feeder,” earning a gold medal in the “Convenience in Daily Life” category for elementary schools. The invention integrates video monitoring, remote feeding, and voice control, solving the difficulty caretakers face when unable to attend to pets regularly. The project demonstrates students’ keen observation of nature and their ability to apply technology creatively.

In addition, Lin Mu-Fan from Dong Hai Elementary School developed the “Inflatable Lift Cushion for Seniors,” inspired by observing his grandfather. The invention won a bronze medal and a special award by assisting elderly individuals in standing up more easily through an automatic inflation and lifting system. Dong Hai Junior High School received a bronze medal and a honorable mention for its projects “Multi-Functional Nail Clipper Case” and “Rehabilitation Piezoelectric Ball.” Bin-Mao Junior High School was recognized with a merit award for the “Mindful Mobile Phone Storage Box,” while National Taitung University Laboratory Elementary School also received a honorable mention for its “Anti-Spill Mug Assist Device.”

The Taitung County Government’s Department of Education stated that the county will continue investing resources to support science competitions and invention projects. Through interdisciplinary learning and hands-on education, it aims to cultivate students’ innovative thinking and ensure that Taitung’s educational strength continues to shine on the international stage.
