Protect the ocean ecosystem! The Department of Environmental Protection Taitung County Government Collaborates with the Water Sports Training Association on the Ocean Cleaning Project, Expecting to Remove Over 226 KGs of Waste from Our Oceans

To maintain and protect the ocean ecosystem, the Department of Environmental Protection Taitung County Government collaborated with the Water Sports Training Association on August 20th. A total of 71 members participated in an ocean and beach cleaning project at Donghe Township’s Xinlan Harbor. Over 226 kg of rubbish was removed from the shore. The Department of Environmental Protection thanks the participating members for their efforts in creating a cleaner environment. Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to kindly refrain from discarding trash irresponsibly so that we can love and protect the Taitung coast together!

The Taitung County Government states that they have been promoting the slow economy model so that friends from all around can come and enjoy the slowed pace of life and the stunningly charismatic Taitung blue. This is why it is especially important to uphold zero tolerance for littering to ensure the quality of the ocean environment. Besides the beach and ocean cleaning projects that are hosted by various organizations, we need everyone to partner with the government to build and maintain the habit of not littering. Doing this will also help us achieve Sustainable Development Goal number 14, to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources, to ensure a diverse ecosystem and prevent environmental deterioration.” We hope that more people will join us in protecting the ocean.

The Department of Environmental Protection reminds everyone that by making a few small changes in our daily lives, such as taking home our garbage, we can help maintain the quality of the ocean ecosystem and allow generations after us enjoy the lovely Taitung blue.
