The large and oddly shaped boulders on Green Island leave room for people’s imaginations to run wild. The General Rock is one of the popular landmarks of Green Island. As you drive along the Round Island Highway towards Gongguan Harbor, you’ll spot the large silhouette sitting on the ocean horizon. The strong presence and uncanny resemblance to a mighty general is stunning.
General Rock is formed from andesite, erosion has shaped the boulder into the shape of a general wearing armor and a helmet, sitting upright and staring at the Triple Rocks up ahead. Coincidentally, General Rock is right beside the Green Island White Terror Memorial Park which was where the political prisoners suffered during the period of White Terror. These unique geographical features call attention to this important part of our history. (Photo credit: Taitung County Government)
