Where can I exchange foreign currency?
Visitors to Taitung who want to exchange foreign currencies need to go through the exchange procedures at the foreign exchange bank designated by the Taiwanese government. In Taitung, restaurants, supermarkets, and large chain stores generally can also take major credit and debit cards(visa/master cards). Reminder: Generally, shops and restaurants do not usually have Visa credit card payment options, and small shops outside Taitung City usually do not offer credit card payment services. You can call the shop in advance to confirm before you go. But keeping a little cash around is highly recommended.
Most convenience stores such as 7-11 or FamilyMart all have ATM machines inside. They are reliable and are accessible 24-7.
You can easily purchase an EasyCard from any convenience stores such as 7-11 or FamilyMart. The card itself cost NT$100 but you will need to put a minimum of NT$100 when you first purchase the card. You can put cash into the EasyCard at any convenience store counter. EasyCards can be used like a credit card at convenience stores and major chain stores; The card also works like a travel pass for all Taiwan public transportations. It’s great for taking buses and metros.
Prices in Taitung are generally similar to those in Taipei. Taitung City and other areas are popular tourist hot-spots. Because of the tourist business, no matter snacks, souvenirs, and hand-made goods, prices are almost the same as in Taipei. If you plan a trip, deduct round-trip transportation, hotel accommodation costs, three meals a day + admission ticket + small gifts from your budget. Generally, NT$ 600 per person is enough to eat well and have a good time.
