East-rift-valley
Provincial Highway 9 is 476 km long and is the longest provincial highway in Taiwan. From Chishang to Taitung City, the highway runs the whole length of the East Rift Valley. Traveling down the highway, visitors can see rolling mountains and green fields on the both sides giving Provincial Highway No.9 the nicknamed the Green Highway. More attractions along the highway include the hot air balloon in Luye Highland, Mr. Brown Avenue in Chishang, the green rice paddies in Kaadaadaan, and the Walking trees in Luanshan.
Do you want to experience the slow-paced lifestyle of the towns on Taitung’s mountain line? Make sure you plan some time to take a walk or bike ride around Guanshan Township the next time you visit Taitung!
Guanshan Township is located next to Chishang Township and is also famous for growing rice. The lovely mountains and endless rice paddies are as stunning as Mr. Brown Avenue while maintaining relatively low foot traffic, provides a simplistic and quiet experience. The Guanshan Bike Trail is the first trail dedicated to bicycle use in Taiwan. As the name suggests, the trail encompasses Guanshan Township in a 12 km long trail that takes 60-90 minutes to complete. The trail is split into a water and mountain section, running along Guanshan Mountain and Red Stone River. Along each side of the trail are wide and spacious paddies and mountain views. Stop and take a break anywhere along the path and you’ll find yourself looking at magnificent views that will relax your mind and soul.
The Guanshan Bike Trail is mostly concrete paved and smooth except for a small uphill section headed towards the Sun Moon Viewing Pavilion, making the trail suitable for families and children. While it is a two-way trail, most visitors choose to leave from the Guanshan Waterfront Park as there are many bicycle rental shops available nearby. Another bonus is that the trail has a safety railing on both sides that separate the bicycle traffic from other motor vehicles to ensure everyone’s safety and guarantee a relaxing and refreshing biking experience.
