Dongqing Bay is located on the east side of Orchid Island. The Yami name for the location is Ivazogan, which means, “the place where the sun first rises.” Dongqing Bay is the largest natural bay on Orchid Island and is the perfect place to welcome the first light in all of Taiwan. One of the most famous sights in Orchid Island is the various-sized Yami kayaks laying out under warm dusk. Besides drawing many photographers to the area for photo shoots, countless visitors wake up early to catch this beautiful view unique to Orchid Island.
Those who are planning to watch the sunrise in Dongqing bay can look up the sunrise schedule posted by the Central Weather Bureau. Leave enough time to set up your tripods so that you don’t miss the golden seconds. As the morning rays of sunlight pour through the clouds, the sky is dyed into hues of orange and gold. The shimmering beams of light are much like that of a stage, shooting on the kayaks on the shore, highlighting the elegant and lovely designs. (Gentle reminder: The Yami Kayaks have special meanings to the Yami people, please refrain from touching the kayaks. Ask for permission before photographing the kayaks, and do not board the kayaks.)
