Taitung Fugang Geopark (Xiaoyeliu)
You may not know that there is a destination not far from Taitung City that has a remarkable resemblance to the Stone Carving Parks in Yeliu, this is the Taitung Fugang Geopark, also known as Xiaoyeliu. Located at the southernmost tip of the east coast, the park is named for having similar stones and landscapes to Yeliu in the north.

National Taiwan Taitung University Library Information
The artistic structure is designed by architect Chen Liangquan. The structure incorporates the local mountain and ocean aesthetics and the unique geological qualities of Taitung. The pyramid-like main building on the north side houses a five-story mountain-shaped structure that is the National Taiwan Taitung University Library. There is another two-story building on the south side beside the man-made Jingxin Lake which is the brains of NTTU’s library operations, the library’s Information Center.

National Museum of Prehistory
The National Museum of Prehistory is an archeological museum that includes an archeological site and a natural park The museum focuses on the study of prehistory and indigenous culture with exhibits featuring Taiwan’s natural history, Taiwan’s prehistory and the aboriginal history in Taiwan. Exhibits show the geologic, biologic, prehistory, and anthropic change of Taiwan from past to present.

Taitung Forest Park
Due to the immense dark beefwood trees along the trail, Taitung Forest Park is nicknamed “Black Forest.” The trees are there to reduce wind damage and provides shade from the scorching summer heat.
The bike trails wind around the three lakes in Taitung Forest Park: Pipa Lake, Huoshui Lake, and Yuanyang Lake. Yuanyang Lake was a wetland connected to two other lakes by a bridge called Yuanyang, which means lovers in Chinese. Huoshui Lake is an excellent venue for sports events such as Triathlons, sailing, kayaking, and recreational swimming. The scenic Pipa Lake is surrounded by the beefwood trees vitally important for protection from harsh weather conditions.

Taitung Downtown Area
Taitung has a diverse and rich ethnic culture. Historical buildings in downtown can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese Colonial Period and the Taiwan Recovery period. Baoting Art and Culture Center is one example of the unique architecture. It was built in 1936 when Taiwan was under Japanese rule period. As the mayor’s residence and the town hall. The traditional Japanese house is charming and retains the tranquil atmosphere of a different time.
Chinese temples and churches are another place to enjoy local cultures as well as study traditional architecture. These temples provide a place to practice religion but also a common location for social gatherings. Visitors often enjoy spending the day socializing and enjoying the local desserts such as green bean soup, sweet potato chips, and mochi.
Fantasy Tiehua
Taitung is a place to find talented indigenous musicians with abundant creative inspiration. Since 2010, Fantasy Tiehua, located in the heart of Taitung, was converted from an abandoned old dormitory for Taiwan Railways administration operators to a now a creative cultural center. The three important components of the Fantasy Tiehua showcasing the local culture are music performances, arts, and a thriving weekend creative market.
Taitung Railway Art Village
The 6 kilometer long Taitung Railway Art Village passes through Taitung City. The railroad has been transformed into a band-shaped green area and cultural space since 2001. Visitors can walk along the wooden tracks and see various industries that the railroads used to support such as the Taitung Sugar Factory, Old Malan Station, Green Corridor and Fantasy Tiehua. Spend an afternoon strolling down the rails, enjoying the beautiful natural views and cultural spaces!
