Bear Trekker is an outdoor team based in Haiduan Township, the eastern gateway to the Southern Cross-Island Highway and the Jiaming Lake National Trail. Founded by local Indigenous mountaineers, the team draws on Bunun mountain culture and place names and aims to create stable jobs for Indigenous youth in Haiduan while sharing the mountains they know best.
The team’s guides and support staff are trained in first aid, rescue, and environmental education. They lead hikers on high-altitude routes in Taiwan, including Jiaming Lake, the Snow Mountain Range, and Mountain Beidawu. They also provide mountain meal catering and support work such as carrying materials to mountain huts and assisting rescues in cooperation with the forestry authorities, helping keep the trails safe and well maintained.
The Xiangyang trailhead for Jiaming Lake is located on Provincial Highway 20 (Southern Cross-Island Highway). Many itineraries require a group of seven or more, and bookings are made through online forms. Hikers to Jiaming Lake must also apply in advance for mountain hut beds through the official system. Although the team’s website is mainly in Chinese, international visitors can contact the team in advance by phone, LINE, or email to confirm arrangements, and bilingual guiding is available.
