The story of Dongjie Tea began with a family growing tea in Taitung. Years ago, the grandfather moved from Nantou to Taitung and, drawn to the climate and environment of Meinong Plateau in Beinan Township, began growing tea there. As the tea market and consumer habits changed, the family later moved its tea-growing operations to the higher elevations of Yanping Township, where the tea plants could grow amid mountain forests, mist, and the natural environment while the family continued its tea-making tradition.
After returning home to take over the tea farm, Hongru Chen began introducing eco-friendly farming practices and gradually transitioned the family tea garden to organic cultivation. From weeding by hand to avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the goal of everyday farm management is not only to produce quality tea, but also to reduce the impact on the land and surrounding ecosystem.
Dongjie Tea offers tea-picking and tea-making experiences, giving visitors the chance to walk through the tea garden and learn how tea goes from freshly picked leaves to the finished product. Simple introductions in English are also available. Visitors interested in tea-picking or tea-making experiences are advised to contact the shop in advance to confirm arrangements.
