The Taitung County Library is set to officially open on April 22. On April 15, County Magistrate April Yao first experienced the Taitung Discovery Center, located on the first floor of the library and covering approximately 694 square meters. She noted that the center integrates multimedia interaction and immersive displays across eight themed zones. Trial operations began on April 16, inviting the public to explore Taitung’s past, present, and future.

County Magistrate Yao stated that the Taitung Discovery Center is designed as a micro-museum for both local residents and visitors. For residents, it offers a space to reconnect with shared memories and find resonance. For first-time visitors, it provides an accessible introduction to Taitung. The center carries both educational and cultural value, while conveying a sense of local pride.

She further explained that the concept of the Discovery Center originated from the county’s “Tourism Navigator” policy. After site selection and extensive deliberation, the completion of the new Taitung Main Library made it possible to establish a comprehensive exhibition space on the first floor, gradually shaping the exhibition content and direction.

According to the Department of Cultural Affairs, the center is knowledge-based and combines static and dynamic displays to create an engaging and informative interactive environment. The exhibition focuses on “people, places, and life in Taitung,” and is organized into eight themed zones: Exploring Taitung, Time and Space, Literature, Music, Art, Rituals and Festivals, Religion, and Sports. Through emotionally resonant narratives and immersive design, visitors are guided to discover and connect with the land.

The exhibition features a wide range of display formats. A timeline of history is projected onto the floor, while literary development is presented through ink-style animation. The music section includes interactive installations that play melodies through breath activation. Art development is presented through a diorama (sand table) display, while festival content is shown on a wide-format screen that allows visitors to browse by month. Exhibits on animistic beliefs, Western religions, and Taoist traditions are presented through varied media. The sports zone invites visitors to get moving and experience the glory of Taitung’s athletes firsthand. The multimedia presentation is lively and accessible to all age groups. Visitors can complete a quick tour in around 30 minutes or spend up to three hours exploring in depth.

The Department of Cultural Affairs noted that the Taitung Discovery Center was developed with an investment of NTD 45 million. Through immersive design, the center enhances visitor experience and encourages reflection on the relationship between people and the land. Whether local residents or visitors from elsewhere, all can find meaningful cultural connections here. During the trial period, the center is open Thursday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Operations and content will continue to be refined, and the public is welcome to visit and share their feedback.
