When camping amidst Taitung’s natural beauty, it’s important to practice the principles of “Leave No Trace” to minimize our environmental impact. Originating from the U.S., the Leave No Trace concept aims to balance the protection of natural ecosystems and cultural resources.

Firstly, familiarize yourself with the local terrain, climate, and ecology before your trip. Choose suitable routes and campsites to ensure safety and minimize environmental impact. When selecting a campsite, use established trails and campgrounds whenever possible. If you must camp in the wilderness, opt for areas with minimal environmental impact, such as rocky or sandy spots.

Waste management is a crucial aspect of Leave No Trace camping. Ensure that all trash is carried out of the campsite, especially food scraps, to avoid attracting wildlife. When camping, prioritize the use of portable stoves for cooking. If a fire is necessary, make sure to use designated fire areas and thoroughly extinguish the fire before leaving.

Respecting wildlife is another key aspect of the Leave No Trace camping. Maintain a safe distance from animals, and avoid feeding or disturbing them. Additionally, refrain from picking plants or moving rocks to preserve the natural beauty of the landscape.

Finally, it’s important to minimize noise, especially during the early morning and evening hours. Keeping quiet not only shows respect for other campers but also for the natural environment. By following these practices, we can fully enjoy Taitung’s natural beauty while protecting this precious ecosystem, ensuring that future visitors can experience the same wonderful surroundings.
