The Slow Food Movement began in Italy and has been gaining popularity worldwide for over three decades. The event has been held in Taitung for a decade, where the “Good, Clean, Fair” slow food spirit has grown locally in rich and diverse ways. The residents of Taitung have developed awareness of their diet through the “Taitung Slow Food Festival”. This leads them to pay attention to the source of their food, urges them to reduce the use of plastics, and helps them to create new stories with traditional crops and cuisine.
In this coming decade, Taitung Slow Foods will devote itself to making an international impression. This year’s Taitung Slow Food International Forum will focus on “From routine to festivities, from traditional to fusion.” The two main themes are, “Slow foods as the contemporary version of traditional food culture,” and, “Diverse ways of participationand the social power of the slow food movement.” Seven representatives from the Slow Food Headquarters in Italy, India, Philippines, and Malaysia, and slow food movement participants from all over South East Asia will come to Taitung to exchange and learn from each other. Besides having the opportunity to see how Slow Food has blossomed in various locations, guests will also discover the energy and appealof Taitung Slow Food which has grown over the past decade. We welcome all to come and join us on this journey to sustaining food culture through slow food. (Photo Credit: FB@Slow Food Taitung)
