You’ll say Sawadikap in Thailand, and Aloha in Hawaii. When entering Taitung, what is the term you should use? Everyone, repeat after me, Makapahay! Makapahay means “the most passionate, beautiful, active, well-rounded, powerful person” in Amis, a term of greeting and praise for a friend.
Taitung is home to the most number of aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. It also home to the largest population of indigenous peoples in all of Taiwan. The county government began hosting the Makapahay Tourism Festival in 1998 to protect and pass down the traditions of each tribe.
Starting in July of this year, a series of cultural events will be held for two months. Besides just introducing the Amis, Paiwan, Beinan, and Rukai harvest festivals, there will be parades, and musical and dance performances so that visitors from all around will have the opportunity to participate and immerse themselves in the passionate and exciting atmosphere. Event Info: Famous Singers and Bands from Taitung and tribal dance performers will be invited to this festival for an exciting evening event.
(4) Taitung Parade Carnival:
Date: August 20th, 2-6 PM
Location: (Starting point) Nanjing Road Plaza → Xinsheng Rd → Zhonghua Rd → Datong Rd → Zhongshan Rd → Xinsheng Park (Finishing Point)
Event Info: Parade groups from all around Taiwan are invited to join this event, the parade’s theme is to use aboriginal elements to dress up in a creative way and parade around Taitung City.
