Turnips are harvested in the winter. Besides being used in turnip soups, braised turnips, and other turnip recipes, you can come and enjoy the fun activity of pulling turnips! The Guanshan Turnip Festival is held each year in January in Guanshan. Under the Town Office’s encouragement, farmers fill their fields with cute and round Jinjiao radishes! What’s better is that the event is completely free. Families are drawn here to enjoy the fun activity. Tools are used to loosen the soil around the radish, grab the radish tops and pull them out one by one. What a fun and unforgettable experience! You’ll hear laughter and cheering echoing throughout the fields.
There’s no need to register for the event, simply show up to join in with the fun! You can bring bags and gloves for pulling radishes or purchase them on site. To make things easier for those who will be traveling from afar, the event is split into two sessions. There will even be a limited amount of radish cakes and warm radish soup waiting for you to come enjoy (limited 200 portions, first come first served).
